# Retinal Detachment

A **detached retina** is a condition that can affect the eye where the [[eyes|retina]] literaly just comes away from the back of the eye.

## Risk Factors
- aging
- previous retinal detachment
- myopia
- family history

## Signs & Symptoms
Interestingly, pain is not a symptom of retinal detachement
The hallmark symtoms of retinal detachment
- new floaters
- new flashes
- a curtain or shadow in the side of your vision
- seeing spots
- loss of central/peripheral [[vision]]
- weak vision
## Dx
• Visual acuity
• Indirect ophthalmoscopy- dilated fundus exam by eye doctor
• Slit-lamp biomicroscopy- can magnify image by 10-40%
• Stereo fundus photography
• Fluorescein angiography
• Retinal assessment-must identify all retinal breaks
• Optical Coherence Tomography
• Ultrasound
